This is a very interesting and increasingly popular ingredient which has steadily and safely won over our customers in Croatia.
Until recently, we referred to desiccated coconut as coconut flour because this type of coconut processing has been the prevalent one on our market and has very often been used in preparing cakes and pastries. Desiccated coconut is obtained by grating coconut flesh. It has an intense and recognizable smell.
It is nutritionally very rich and has a lower carbohydrate content, as well as more protein and fiber compared to coconut flour.
We can also use it to make homemade coconut milk, which is always of better quality than the store-bought version and the preparation process is very simple.
Desiccated coconut is still popular today for making various raw desserts (raw bliss balls) and we also add it to smoothies, porridge or rice pudding, a childhood classic for many of us.
