Physalis or Peruvian groundcherry is a type of exotic fruit grown in many parts of the world. Its various names depend on the location. The name widely used in Croatian is peruanska jagoda or Peruvian groundcherry. Despite their name, they have more in common with tomatoes than with strawberries.
In its fresh form, Peruvian groundcherry is a round, red and orange fruit popular in South American cuisine in which it is used as both fruit and vegetable.
It has a fantastic sweet and sour taste and can be eaten raw or dried, on its own or combined with nuts and dried fruit in breakfast porridges.
