Poppy originated in Asia. We use ripe poppy seeds for food preparation, mostly in sweet rolls and pastries such as traditional poppy seed rolls, squash strudels and other desserts, but poppy can also provide savory dishes with new, undiscovered flavours.
Poppy seeds are also typically used for sprinkling on top of bread and milk bread rolls. You can add pre-roasted poppy seeds to various salad dressings.
They are rich in fiber and protein and contain a considerable amount of fat which primarily consists of linoleic acid (which contributes to reducing blood cholesterol levels).
